Nuno Miguel Fonseca Ferreira (Ph.D.)

Nuno Ferreira is an Assistant Professor (tenure position) with the Department of Electrical Engineering of Institute of Engineering of Coimbra, and is a Permanent Researcher in the Knowledge Research Group on Intelligent Engineering and Computing for Advanced Innovation and Development (GECAD) team of the Engineering Institute of Porto in Portugal also he collaborate as Researcher with CRIS team of the INESC TEC - Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science and collaborate with the team of LIACC- Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. He received the Engineering degree, the M.Sc. degree, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto and Faculty of Engineering of University of Trás-dos-Montes e Alto Douro, in 1996, 1999 and 2006, respectively. His main research area is robotics and his main research interests are industrial robots, cooperative robots, multi-robot systems, human-robot team cooperation, distributed control, cooperative perception and autonomous robots. He is the co-author of about 60 papers published in ISI-indexed scientific journals, book chapters, and proceedings of peer-reviewed international scientific conferences. He began his career as an electrical engineer in Siemens Company, where he worked between Ago. 1996 and Mar. 1997. He began his career as a teacher at Department of Electrical Engineering of Institute of Engineering of Coimbra, and exercised Public Management and Administrative Activities such as Vice-President of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra since 2013 to 2017, President of the Institute of Engineering of Coimbra since 2010 to 2013, Pro-President for Research at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra since 2009 to 2010, Member of the General Council of the IPC since 2009 to 2017 and Vice-President of the Institute of Engineering of Coimbra, since 2003 to 2005.

Micael Santos Couceiro (Ph.D. student)

He obtained the B.Sc. degree on Electrical Engineering - Automation in 2006, the Teaching Licensure degree (B.Sc. plus 2 years) on Electrical Engineering -
Automation and Communications in 2008 and the M.Sc. degree on Automation and Communications in Energy Systems - Industrial Systems in April 2010, all at the
Engineering Institute of Coimbra (ISEC) - Portugal. He is a Ph.D. student on Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology
of University of Coimbra (FCTUC), with Dr. Rui P. Rocha (MRL - ISR) as his scientific supervisor and Dr. Nuno M. F. Ferreira (RoboCorp - ISEC) as his co-supervisor.
He also conducts research on multi-robot systems and swarm robotics at the Mobile Robotics Laboratory (MRL), a part of the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR),
at Coimbra - Portugal. He has published papers on mobile robotics, biomimetics, fractional-order control, sports engineering, biomechanics and mathematical methods.

Carlos Manuel Clímaco Figueiredo (M.Sc.)

He graduated at the Engineering Institute of Coimbra (ISEC) - Portugal, with a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering - Automation (2006) and a Teaching Licensure
(B.Sc. plus 2 years) in Electrical Engineering - Automation and Communications (2008). In 2011 he obtained the M.Sc. degree in Automation and Communications in Energy Systems - Industrial Systems.
He worked at Institute Pedro Nunes (IPN) at Coimbra in the development of new technologies for alternative transportation systems based on autonomous electric vehicles in 2009.
Since then he works at ISEC and he is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE).
He is also under a research grant between ISEC and Martifer (metallic constructions and structures industry) working on Industrial Robotics and Automation.

João Miguel Almeida Luz (Ph.D. student)

He graduated at Engineering Institute of Coimbra (ISEC) - Portugal, with a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering - Automation in 2007
and a Teaching Licensure (B.Sc. plus 2 years) in Electrical Engineering - Automation and Communications in 2009.
In 2009-2010 he worked in data and sensor fusion and in a project regarding quality control using machine vision.
He is a Ph.D. student on Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Coimbra (FCTUC).

Pedram Ghamisi (Ph.D. student)

He graduated with a B.Sc. degree at Tehran South Campus of Azad University in Survey Engineering (2008).
Then, he obtained the M.Sc. degree on Remote Sensing at K.N.Toosi University of Technology. He achieved the Best Researcher Award
between all M.Sc. students in K. N. Toosi University of Technology in academic year: 2010-2011. During his M.Sc. degree,
he has worked on Efficient Algorithms for lossless compression of Remote Sensing Images.
Besides his M.Sc. thesis, he has worked on a few projects such as Object Based Image Analysis (OBIA), optimization algorithms, and hyperspectral image analysis
and published a few papers regarding them. His main research fields include Remote Sensing Image Analysis, Image Processing, Image Coding and Compression and Pattern Recognition.

She obtained the Licensure degree on Biomedical Engineering in 2013, and the licensure degree on Electrical engineering in July 2016. M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Instrumentation in December 2015 all at the Engineering Institute of Coimbra (ISEC) - Portugal. She is a Ph.D. student on Electrical and Computer Enginnering at University of Trás-Os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), with Dr. Nuno Ferreira as her scientific supervisor and Dr. António Valente as his co-supervisor. She has published papers on social robotics, education, humanoid robots and human movement analysis.

Aratã Andrade Saraiva (Ph.D. student)

He obtained B.Sc. in Maritime Engineering in 2009, Master in Biomedical Engineering in 2014 at the Federal Technological University of Parana (UTFPR). Currently Ph.D. student on Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), Dr. Antonio Valente as scientific supervisor and Dr. Nuno MF Ferreira (RoboCorp - ISEC) as co-supervisor.
He also conducts research on computer vision, multi-robot systems and swarm robotics at the Computer Science Development Center. He has published articles on cooperative and bioinspired robotics.

Edmundo Rodrigues Soares (Ph.D. student)

He obtained the master degree (M.Sc.) in Electrotechnical Engineering - Automation and Communications in Industrial Systems in 2016 at the Institute of Coimbra (ISEC) – Portugal. He is a Ph.D. student on Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), with Dr. Nuno M. F. Ferreira (RoboCorp - ISEC) as his supervisor. He also conducts research on the development of a mobile robot nose for the detection and classification of odors that reflect the level of cleanliness or quality of the air.
He has published papers on mobile robotics and gas sensors.

Carla M. A. Pinto (Ph.D.)

Carla M.A. Pinto is an Assistant Professor at Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, Portugal, since December 2006, and is a member of the research center Centro de Matemática da Universidade do Porto. She has a PhD in Mathematics (since January 2004).
Her current research fields involve the study of nonlinear dynamical systems, considering fractional and integer order derivatives, using bifurcation theory and symmetry techniques. Applications of her research are the study of online generation of trajectories in robots using a dynamical systems approach, and mathematical models in epidemiology, namely models for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria transmission.
Some previous work involved the study of coupled dynamical systems as models of biological systems, namely animal locomotion, neurons.
She has authored/co-authored a large number of research papers, published in international journals or presented at international conferences.

Fernando Martins (Ph.D.)

He graduated with a Mathematics Teaching Licensure at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in 2001. He concluded the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics in 2003 and 2007, respectively, at UBI, tutored by Ph.D. José Vitória and Ph.D. Edgar Pereira. Since 2009 he works at the Coimbra College of Education (ESEC) and he is currently a Professor in the Department of Education (Mathematics and Mathematics Education).

Maria António Castro (Ph.D.)

She graduated in Physiotherapy in 1987 at the Coimbra College of Health Technology (ESTESC). In 1996, she obtained the license degree on Rehabilitation at ISPA in Lisbon. In 1999 she got the M.Sc. degree in Sports Sciences at FADE-UP. She received her Ph.D. in Physiotherapy in 2008 at the FMH-UTL. She is currently on her post doctoral studies on human movement at FMH-UTL. She was Physiotherapist of Senior Women's Basketball Portuguese Team from 1995 to 2005 and also the founder and president of the Portuguese Physiotherapists' Trade Union from 1998 to 2005. She currently works at ESTESC as a Professor where she teaches Human Movement Study, Manual Therapy and Exam and Evaluation.

Rui Manuel Sousa Mendes (Ph.D.)

He graduated with a 5-year diplom in Teacher Physical Education at the Faculty of Human Kinetics of Technical University (FMH) of Lisbon in 1989. He obtained the M.Sc. degree in Child Development - Motor Development at the FMH in 1994. He concluded the Ph.D. degree at FMH in Human Kinetics Sciences - Motor Control and Learning tutored by Professor Mário Godinho. He is a research member of BIOLAD group of Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Human Performance (CIPER). Since 1990 he works at the Coimbra College of Education (ESEC) in the Sports and Physical Education Department. He is also the President of ESEC since 2010.

Rúben Rocha (Ph.D. student)

He graduated in Sports and Leisure at Coimbra College of Education, in 2010. He obtained the M.Sc. degree in Teaching of Physical Education in Basic and High School at the Faculty of Sport Sciences and Physical Education of University of Coimbra (FCDEF-UC), in 2012.
He is currently a Ph.D. student in Sports Sciences with a specialization in Physical Activity & Health at the Faculty of Sport Sciences and Physical Education of the University of Coimbra. The research line focuses in fast- fibers training under way to develop explosive strength in the elderly by improving the quality of its segmental motion.
He also conducts research on Aging, Exercise Physiology, Motor Learning and Control, Sport Pedagogy, and Physical Education.
